Types of Attic Insulation

If your home Insulation Contractor cold even with the heating on, chances are your attic insulation needs to be replaced. It’s an inexpensive, quick and easy home improvement project that will prevent hot air from escaping your home during the winter, or cold air entering during the summer. It will also keep your house more consistent in temperature from ceiling to floor and reduce outside noise.

If energy efficiency is your priority, blown-in fiberglass is a great choice. Its blown-in distribution method makes it easier to get even coverage, filling cracks and awkward spaces that might be difficult to reach with other types of attic insulation. It’s also much quicker to install, taking a matter of hours, as opposed to days with fiberglass batt insulation.

Unlike other types of attic insulation, which are either precut or require cutting to size with scissors, fiberglass blanket insulation can be cut to fit wall studs and attic joists. It may be covered by a facing that acts as an air and vapor barrier to prevent condensation and facilitate handling and fastening. The facing can be made of paper, plastic fibers, mineral wool or fiberglass.

Another option for attic insulation is cellulose, which follows the same distribution method as blown-in fiberglass but uses a different material. It’s created from recycled products like cardboard, newspapers and wood-based materials. It’s also infused with boric acid to make it fire resistant and slow the spread of flames in the event of a fire.
